Hi, The last time that I had this problem I made a new one out of 1/2″ solid bar instead of tubing! A bit heavy of course, but much stronger, and much easier to work with. With any straightening job like this you do need access to oxyacetylene or oxypropane kit in order to bend it, and if using solid bar you need an angle-grinder to form the flats where it bolts onto the mudguard stays.
