I have an original Lucas DU142F headlight in very very good condition ; no dents or scrapes. It is being painted at the moment and should be completed next week.
Now this is the 8″ diameter suffix ‘F’ unit, which, according to my investigations, was only manufactured from 1937 to 1939 (or possibly 1936 to 1939 – by all means, let me know if I am wrong). So, not for very long at all and would, I assume, be quite rare. It should be suitable for most bikes manufactured during this period.
This is not to be confused with the ubiquitous 7″ diameter DU142 (without the ‘F’ suffix) that are seen everywhere.
It has a loose lens on a reflector with quite good original silvering (it has some pits, but has cleaned up very well) and should be ok unless you need to ride at night (in which case, it would need resilvering – possibly). The bulbs fit into a separate panel which, in turn, clips to the reflector.
The switch is original and still in good shape.
The ammeter is, however, a replacement 8-0-8 replica ; I have the original, but it does not have either a glass or face – the body has also split in half.
It comes complete with bar brackets that fitted it to my Scott kite forks.
I will put it on Ebay along with my refurbished Lucas mag/dyno of similar period (hopefully, they should do quite well).
However, if anyone wants to make an offer or wants to swap either for equivalent 1930 items (for my 1930 TT Rep), please let me know ; I can top up the swap with huge amounts of cash if necessary (anything over a tenner is a huge amount to me).
I should be able to supply photos by the middle of next week.
Chris.
