I was lucky to be able to purchase a Lucas MS31 headlight, which I intend to mount on my 1930 TT Rep. Fantastic shape with a maximum diameter of 5 3/4″ and in amazing unmolested condition, with original glass, original bulb etc etc (the original wiring has been binned, as the insulation has become brittle).
Whilst I will be very happy for it to go on my bike, it wouldn’t be exactly correct (obviously a Lucas H52 is really needed) and it might be just the headlight someone has been searching for. So, if anyone wishes to swap a Lucas H52 unit for it, please let me know.
I believe that it might have been used on the lightweights and as a pair for a Reynolds Special (definitely Brough used a pair on some of their bikes – I’ve seen the brochures) ; I have also seen photographs that show very similar lights on Squirrels up to 1928 or 1929.
I am happy to send some photographs if required.
Anyway, the offer is there. If nobody wants to swap, it will go on my bike.
