Hi
On the last three bikes that I have restored I have not used the original type magneto cutout device as it is rather Mickey Mouse engineering and prone to failure, especially in the rain. As it is largely hidden from view, just in front of the radiator, I have used a 1960’s/70’s Lucas brake-light switch instead; the type with a flat-section operating bar that goes in one end and out the other end of the switch body. By carefully drilling one end of the bar you can hook up to the half-compression gizmo that also acts as an extra return spring, and connect the other end to the operating cable. MUCH better operation, and weatherproof too….
I got the switch from Gaggs in Nottm., but they are currently selling up, and perhaps have none left. It should be easy enough to get from a another British bike specialist though.
Brian.
