magdyno advice/opinions wanted

Hi all,

My TT rep with the broken crank is slowly being put back together but I don’t want to reassemble it with the (non original and not very good) lucas door mounted distributor. The reasons being it is far from original and the advance curve is all wrong.

I believe originally it would have had a lucas magdyno, but I’ve read that the BT-H ones are a vast improvement. Two items though:

1. It seems BT-H have stopped making Scott magnetos
2. A BT-H would be non original anyway

SO has any one got any advice, or thoughts on where I could find a lucas magdyno, or a suitable BT-H one? Also is the BT-H one a magneto or a magdyno, now the website information is dead I cannot even find pics.

HI Richard
Have you checked with the Vintage Motorcycle Club’s Scott Factory dispatch records. If you tell them your engine, frame and reg numbers, they will tell you what equipment was fitted to your bike when it left the factory, including what type and make of mag etc. Some purchasers specified what they wanted fitted, so hence no two Scotts are the same.

Hi Dave,

No I haven’t, but actually applied for membership last Friday so I could get the records for the bike and also do the Banbury run, which is what I’m trying to get it back together for. I expect it will be a Lucas magdyno as per my other bike of the same year and spec, but I’ll get that confirmed soon. It had a Lucas DKX2 dizzy on the RH door (Austin Seven 4 cyl version!) driven at half engine speed, and worked terribly!
