Missing Trophies

Twice in the last three years I have won trophies at the Scott Rally. In 2011 I won the ‘Premier Award’, and it was handed to me, then immediately grabbed back “for refurbishment”. I never saw it again ! Then this year I won ‘Best Competition Machine’, again with my 1928 Works TT machine. I never saw the trophy, and was told that it had not been returned by last year’s winner.
It is all very well returning home with some kudos, but actually getting the appropriate trophy, to stand on the mantelpiece for twelve months, and get my name engraved on it, would have been preferred. Has it been returned yet ?

As you are aware the trophies have undergone rationalization and refurbishment over the last few years. The Premier Award (in common with many of the others) was extremely tired by 2011 and required some dents removed, re-plating and re-mounting. You will appreciate that the only real opportunity to collect in the trophies is at the Gathering when (most of them) are returned by the previous year’s recipient. This inevitably means that when such work is necessary the current year’s recipient goes home empty-handed. Please accept my apologies that it was you that suffered that year.

The non-availability of the The President’s Trophy this year is simply a matter of last year’s recipient failing to return it in time for the Gathering. I have written requesting that it is returned to me and as soon as I am in receipt I will forward it on to you. Again, my apologies.

Whilst on the subject of trophies two others are missing and if anyone can shed any light on their whereabouts, I would be obliged. They are-

The Late Vintage Trophy
The Taverners’ Tankard (for best side-car outfit)

If there is no news I will go about replacing them.
