Can anybody identify this interesting curio ? .. It’s about an inch and a half in diameter and appears to be a medallion or medal perhaps .
It turned up recently on an Ebay auction ..

I think that you will find that this was a works identification tag. It looks in very good condition.

Could it be a tool stores token ie for workshop personel to withdraw tools and to be retained by store keeper until tool was returned.

Works key fob or something for clocking on/off?

Looks like a works/stores/keys ID tag, but a very upmarket and unnecessarily ornate one. Wonder if it was originally intended for awards or advertising and recycled for works use?

It does seem rather ornate for a simple number tag .. I wonder if the small circle emblem has any significance at all ?

I would say that it was punched with this unique(?) stamp to identify it as a “real” tag as opposed to an unofficial tag which any employee with some number punches could knock up.

As stated above I think it is a tool token that you hand in when you borrow a tool from the stores. We used similar ones at the BTH when I was employed there in the 1950’s
