NEW PRIMARY CHAIN

I intend to replace the primary chain on my 62 Birmingham scott and would like to buy the new one before i remove the old one. can any one help me and tell me the chains specifications _ Regards JIM

I use 5/8 X 0.380″ (530 metric), 96 links if I counted correct.

The information that you gave to Jim is for the final chain. The primary chain size is 1/2″ x .305″ x 68 or 69 links.

Don’t take the old chain off before you have the new one to hand.

Connect the new length to the old and use the old to pull the new through, it may well save on temper, fingers, nails, blood and a deal of time…!

Jim, Might I suggest that you give Dave Brierley a ring, he has an add in the Yowl. He has all the correct size and lengths of chain for Scotts, Genuine Reynolds.

Sorry about the mistake (primary /final).
I don’t find it that hard to mount a new chain without the old one, a piece of wire with a hook can do the job, but you have to remove the carburator and the oiltank.
