Hi all,

In a few weeks my family and I hope to spend a weeks holiday near Sudbury. We’ll be staying in a 1885 Victorian Railway carriage! Like before I would like to ask you all if anyone has any tips for places to visit or things to do in the neighborhood of Sudbury? Of course we have done some searching on the web but we’re open for all suggestions from “locals”!

“The Museum of Childhood” at Sudbury Hall, and Sudbury Castle are both very good, and not expensive.
I hope you enjoy your holiday.

Hi Erik,

I think you mean the Sudbury north of Colchester not the one in Derbyshire that Brian refers to.

Yeah, I was just going to write that I meant Sudbury Suffolk but Eddie beat me to it… Never realized that there were two…

Hello Erik there was a windmill open as a museum with a large staitionry engine a victorion chemist shop e.t.c called sutton mill cannot recall exatly where but in that part of england.. You could google sutton mill and it may come up.. Have a good holiday excuse terrible grammer [ i am just an old oik ] Regards D F .

Hi Eric

You may already know about Colne Valley Railway, only a few miles from Sudbury. But perhaps that is where your railway carriage accomodation is ?

They have a short stretch of track and run steam trains. Do check online before visiting as autumn/winter schedule is more restricted.

Our grandchildren enjoy it.

Well, we had a wonderful time in the UK. The carriage was very nice and period and the badgers that came to eat the peanuts every night were very much welcomed by our kids!
