Hello all you Scott owners!
I am not a motorcycle man, but my father and grandfather were both very keen motorcyclists, and having found a few old photos in the family archives, I would like to share them with a wider audience.
My grandfather was a great Scott enthusiast, and I can remember from my childhood the sound and smell of these machines – there was always at least one Scott in the garage, and usually more than one!
This is the earliest photo I have found, which shows my grandfather on the right with an early Scott, and his brother Stan on the left with an unidentified machine. The photo is inscribed “1920” 0n the reverse:
The other photos I have found so far are of much later date, probably 1952, when the Scotts were just ‘old’ machines, but oh, how he loved them!
Any comments, and identifications would be most welcome – the last two photos show machines which were not sold until the late 1950s, so there is a good chance they are still around, although they do not show up on the DVLA records. I would be delighted to learn of their survival!
I have several more similar photographs of non-Scotts – if there is general interest in them I will add them to the thread.
I’ve dug through some more boxes, and found these:
First of all, another shot of the early machine, this is taken at the 1921 Ringland Hillclimb (just outside Norwich):
and two more shots of PW 5718:
This one is of yet another Scott, taken in 1955:
This one appears to be an earlier photo, captioned 1928, which may relate to the date of the bike rather than the photo, although Pop’s hair is darker, and there’s more of it than in the post-war photos!
Great pics, thanks for posting them up. Always good to see new material coming out.
I’m sure Ian Parsons will be along soon to give some more info, he is the club machine registrar and if the bikes are known he will have the notes.
Even if the bikes are not currently known to the club I’m sure Ian would appreciate a copy of the photos to put on file, as the bikes may turn up in the future and could then be reunited with their pictures.
