The oval tank on my 1914 Scott is leaking again after some time beeing tight. An inspection showed that the POR 15 lining has come off on several places showing big bubbles and the tank is now leaking on 5 spots all located at places where the top or bottom parts are soldered to the tin drum in the middle. I would no longer recommend tank sealing with POR 15 or similar products because if it leaks again there is no chance to remove the sealing except burning.
I believe the condition of the tank is beyond good repair. There are too many rust pits too deep on the inside. Is there anyone who can made the bottom and the top part of this tank or who has made a mold for this?
Meanwhile I will try to fix this with two component adhesives from the outside to do the planned runs in 2009.
I have used “tankcure” sealant in many tanks so far, including my Flyer tank as well as my two speeder biscuit tank. I never had any experience with flaking or bubbles and am very happy with the results so far.
As regarding to Grahams tip: I think I remember Colin advertising somewhere quite a while ago that he had only one tank left….
