Oval tanks

Does anyone know if the leather cloth / rexine covering on the biscuit barrel tanks was glued on or only retained by the stitching and metal bands top and bottom?

Looking at several pictures on the web I sometimes see wrinkles in the covering that would suggest that no glue was used…

Trouble is, you will also see coverings that are not wrinkled, so the converse may also be true!
