POOLS milling machine

Does anyone have,or does anyone know of anyone who has a POOLS milling machine ?

Hi Roger

Don’t know of anyone who has one nowadays, I remember them as an amateur machine from many years ago. Apparently they were made not far from Nottingham.
If you look up : lathes.co.uk on the Internet you then will find Pools (or Pool as they sometimes were labelled) under “machinery manufacturers”. There are some photos of their lathes and millers therein.

Hi,
Pools Tools were on Carlton Street, Nottingham. They closed about ten to fifteen years ago. I suspect that many of the machine tools that they sold were not made ‘in house’, and were probably bought in and badged-up as their own. A very brief mention on the internet says that Slack and Parr Ltd., of Kegworth, and Ross and Alexander of London, made a lot of machines for Pools.

The reason I enquired is that I have recently acquired one,and wanted to share experiences with another owner. It is a horizontal miller,and appears to be a well made and easy to use machine for small jobs.

Hello Roger .
A neighbour had a Pools horizontal mill he was into model locos he made many complex parts on this machine nothing appeared to be a problem to him . He made a vertical head for the pools utilising the headstock from a small lathe and a second motor and belt . Now deceased for some 20 years his workshop tools were sold at that time the mill and Invicta lathe were bought by a man that came from the Tunbrige wells area. Your pools should be just the job for bike bits good luck D F .

If anyone out there has got a ‘RandA’ lathe, it was made by Ross and Alexander, and will be the same as the Pools lathe, as they made them for Pools.
