I finally got my bike back together for the festival of 1000 bikes at Mallory recently, where I had the honour of being invited to participate in the “Past Masters Demonstration” This was a little uncomfortable, as I never considered myself a “Master” and hate to think I am “Past”
A contractor had made a mistake that put my barrel of 35 years “Beyond use” A black day indeed.
A customer who had ordered a full new Moss sports engine, allowed me to use his engine for the next few weeks until I can solve my barrel problem.
The customer was a little worried having seen Richards two piece crankcase, but I assured him that Richard had used an old Birmingham case that had been welded up and then been a bit adventurous in his tuning, whereas our customer had one of our high strength heat treated cases and the engine built as a sports roadster with 0.032” / 0.034” piston clearance after head was tightened down four times and 30cc head volume. It also has a weighted flywheel, so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
We are doing a little work to Richards engine to ensure durability and Eddie Shermer is doing new ratios in his gearbox. The only worry is getting a medical and then renewing my licence in time for Cadwell. As I have mild diabetes, like thousands of others, I must have medical clearance including heart checks.
Considering I will have ridden for two days at the Beezumph on my road licence on the Friday and Saturday, then I hardly think I am likely to keel over on the Sunday. I must only be careful not to fall off and break any more bones, or Marina will not be best pleased!
Any Scott fans who feel like joining us will be welcome. Kind Regards to all Roger
