Radiator Disaster

Trying to be a little less last-minute this year, I decided to deal with the irritating little leak in the radiator of my Birmingham Scott in good time for the Coventry-Brighton run at the end of April. The best laid plans ….etc.

I recovered the radiator form the repairers this week after they admitted that they could not repair it without ruining the plating but hoped to have slowed the flow at least. I spent a happy hour in the Spering sunshine this afternoon refitting the radaitor and with anticipation filled it in the hope of getting a quick blast around the block before dark. You can probably guess…

A torrent of water reminiscent of Victoria falls !!

Has anyone got a servicable Birmingham radiator for sale or one which I can borrow so that I can defend the title of Best (and only) Scott in the Coventry-Brighton? Otherwise can anyone provide suggestions for a repairer who might be able to provide a fix within 4-5 weeks.

It’s funny how quickly the memory of disasters disappointments of each biking season fade only to return the following year!

I had a big leak problem with the SCOTT IS BORN project, it came with a shop soiled but apparently new radiator as it still had blanks soldered over the pipes from leak testing, but upon filling, it leaked like a colander. when I took it to a local specialist, he was of the opinion that residual flux had, over the years, eaten away the film core, and was not repairable. I obtained a couple of quotes for re-core, one was £600 plus vat and another was £700 plus vat, and I would still have tired plating, so it was no contest, ring Graham Moag and order a new one.
