First of all i am sorry for bombarding you all with questions but as a club member i know that there is enough knowledge in the club to guide me through the intracasies of vintage scotts….The radiator on my bike seems to be springing leaks all over and don’t really know how to resolve this.Obviously a new radiator from the club would be the ideal solution but the cost is more than a months take home pay for me at the moment and with a young family and a mortgage i need to find another way.Is it possible to recore these rads successfully or do i need to save up for a new one!!!.As ever any help gratefully received..Regards Adrian
Re-coring an old rad is possible (the one on ‘Bitsa’ is just that) BUT it can be expensive and involves a considerable amount of work AND there is no guarantee that the metal it is made from is usable meaning it may just crumble away due to corrosion.
It could cost nearly what a new one would cost. Whatever you do, DON’T trust a secondhand rad, the core could be blocked and I know of someone who wrecked a newly rebuilt engine (in a car) by not having a new rad made!
