My father, who was the blacksmith at Hampton Court Palace for most of his working life, made a set of mudguards for his 1931 Rep. from half hard aluminium. He obviously didn’t like the gap between the front tyre and the mudguard so he made a set of stays that were anchored on the front wheel spindle so the the guard went up and down with the wheel and allowed the guard to be fitted close to the tyre.
