Scott barrel paint code.

I have a 1929 Scott Flying Squirrel 500cc, would someone happen to have the code for the burgundy red paint on the barrels?

Please dont use Scott purple for barrels, early Scotts had hand polished iron barrels that were finished in alazarin crimson tinted laquer, Flyer barrels were not polished at the factory and were painted, the nearest correct colour is Midland Railway Red available from model suppliers, you do not need heat proof paint for watercooled barrels. So many Scotts have been ruined by using the wrong finish on barrels. Alan Noakes

As far as I am aware all Scott barrels  pre war were polished & lacquer put on,I certainly had two detachable  head barrels that I know were original,one well used  long stroke one had turned a pale brownish colour.the other  a short stroke   (yes a short stroke detachable head one )was brand new ex Shipley  and was still a lovely colour.

To get the correct finish on your barrel polish it as best you can & apply a mixure of (oil based) artists   alizarin crimson. with a good heat resisting varnish,You will need to put about two or three blobs of the red about  the size of a pea with about   two or three table spoons of varnish,you will probably need a couple of coats–rub down between coats     —     Potty_
