Scott Frame Number

Great forum – so informative and so many wise sages around so here’s a simple on for you all.

OK its stupid question time. I’ve had my 1930 Scott since April ’05 and despite stripping it down for a minor refurb and polish I have failed to find the frame number. I’ve got engine, gearbox and others but the actual frame no eludes me.

Where, usually is it? I cant find any mention of the supposed position anywhere. I have the supposed number which was in some docs I received with the bike but so far I have been unable to locate the actual number on the frame.

The frame has been stove enamelled so it may be covered. Of course there is the possibility that the frame is not original so any assistance would be very welcome.

Dunno about a 30’s machine but my 1950ish machine, (and therefore a Shipley job), has the frame number on the steering head casting, look at top left hand rear facing frame tube lug.

You do not say whether you have a 2 Speed or a Flying Squirrel/TT Rep frame. In both case the Frame No is on the headstock lug.

On the 2 Speed it is on the top surface of the side car mounting boss on the headstock.

On the FS/TT Rep frames it is on the nearside of the headstock lug. It can get filled in by paint. It is also not unknown for it to be defaced, restamped or removed to hide a change of frame.

I have a 1937 Scott, and as in a previous post,my frame number is on the offside of the headstock tube.

Well you have all basically confirmed what I thought anyway. I have searched the headstock and all its lugs and there is nothing to be found. The paint has been removed so it looks like a replacement frame with no number.
