The problems continue with the rebuild of my 1947 (basket case) FS. At some stage in its life an attempt had been made to fit a cable operated rear brake. The bits that I had were incomplete so I decided to fit a standard rear brake mechanism. I purchased the gearbox tray clamps from Ken Lack and offered them up. No luck. I measured the width of the gearbox tray and found it was the same as my 1936 model. I measured the space between the rear frame tubes and found that the 1947 model is approx 3/10 inch narrower.
Question…..Did 1947 Scotts have smaller frames than earlier models.?
or Did 1947 Scotts have narrower gearbox trays ?
Can I file off some of the gearbox tray casting to accomodate the gearbox tray clamps ?

Have you checked that your frame is 1947? I have an early 1948 frame that has brazed on tray /brake cross-over lugs as an original fitment. The lugs are not the clamp on type just brazed on, but an entirely different shape with a lower lug below the frame tube for a roll on centre stand. Unfortunately the frame is inaccessable at the moment so I can’t take a measurement or a photograph.
You could try putting in the engine bolts and tightening them so that the frame dimensions around the engine are correct and spread where the clamps are fitted by use of a car jack or similar.

However,I have two other queries relating to same.
Should the double holed gearbox clamps be on the inside of the frame ??? and What should be the overall length of the brake crossover shaft?
The brake crossover shaft that I have has a short threaded section at one end ( 13mm) and a longer threaded section (17mm) at the other, which end is for the brake pedal ???

On my 1938 Scott, the double holed clamps are on the inside of the frame tubes. The over-all length of the brake shaft is 12 1/2″ (318mm). I can’t remember the thread lengths. The squared-off sections that fit into the brake pedal and brake arm plus where the rounded sections line up with the clamps should indicate which way round the shaft fits.
