I have read so much about Scotts over the las 5-6 years that I remember the issues but often not the sources. Two such issues that I would like comment and corroboration on are the following.
.Under at least 3 of my vintage Flyer tanks is a large blob of solder imprinted in all cases with the Letter “P”.I believe I read in one of the back issues of Yowl that this represented the initial of the tinsmith who soldered the tank and that it was a form of quality control where the maker of the tank was identified.By the way – all 3 tanks which have this are TT Rep type tanks with cylinder wall oiling pump fitted.-Any Comments?
.The second issue relates to the sale of Scott 3 cylinder engines to DKW who sold designs to SAAB. Both company’s went on to produce their own 3 cylinder car engines. This was contained in letter published in Aug 1986 edition of The Classic Motorcycle. The letter was signed by John Lawes,BMW marque specialist VMCC,KirkLangley,DE64NJ-Any comments
.Kendall Scotts-do any survive?
.Mercury Scotts-are the whereabouts of all 5 known?
