A chap called Harold Cottam was the radio operator on the RMS Carpathia who received the distress call from the RMS Titanic after it struck the iceberg in 1912. He was also a Scott owner, and his bike was subsequently owned by Les Langworthy, and currently by Bob Crawley.
On Saturday October 19th a Blue Plaque is being unveiled at 12 noon, to commemorate Harold’s life, in the village of Lowdham, Notts., close to where I live. His family will be there, and Bob Crawley is bringing Harold’s old Scott for the family, and the media to see. This is taking place at The Ship Inn on Main Street, and I understand that food is being provided. I intend to be there with my camera. I hope that other Scott owners can also make it.
