Earlier this month some of us got a real buzz out of setting out from Abbotsholme School in a group of about 40 Scotts. It would be equally thrilling, perhaps even better, to have a similar number together on the track at Mallory Park on Saturday July 12th for The Festival of 1000 Bikes.
Because of the significance of 2008 for us, I understand that the VMCC are prepared to make one of the track sessions exclusively Scott. For this to happen there will need to be a minimum number of Scotts entered – I’m not sure exactly what the number is, nor do I know how many have already entered. But even if we fail to make that minimum number, it will still be worth doing, as they will apparently still put all the entered Scotts on the track together for one of the track sessions – we’ll just have to share it with some lesser machinery!
James Hewing emailed me this morning and said “We are sticking them (the Scott entries) all together, if we get enough entries it can be a Scott only session but you need to prompt a good few more and enter yourself” Well, I had entered only for the Sunday, but will now also ride on the Saturday, as this is too good a prospect to miss.
By now you will have realised that this is a totally unashamed attempt to try and drum up support, but wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could fill the grid with Scotts!
There are still entries available. An entry form can be downloaded from the VMCC website.
Just a quick update on the note I posted last night: I emailed James Hewing with the copy that I’d posted, as I wanted to be sure that I hadn’t mis-represented the position. He has just replied:
“Hi Martin,
That’s fine, would need 30-35 to make it economical for us to run “Scott only”, that’s not too bad is it?”
See you at Mallory?
Martin
More Scotts are needed to be entered for the Track Sessions at Mallory Park. Currently only 5 have been entered so many more are needed if we are to have a dedicated Scott session. Entries must be made to the VMCC and as Martin says forms can be downloaded. The track sessions are meant for road bikes and you ride at your own pace. There is no racing and I would say that it is safer than riding on the road so please give it a go.
I have had a good response for helpers on the SOC stand so thanks in advance to them.
Those who have entered the track sessions for this event will have received details of which session(s) they are riding in. Unfortunately I do not believe there are sufficient entries for a Scott only session. The best we can hope for is all to be in the same session with other bikes. This may well be the second session on the Saturday.
I should be getting the club stand passes within the next few weeks and will contact those who have offered bikes and help for the Club stand then.
