Does anyone know if the bikes are going to be secured overnight as per Abbotsholme, I.e a locked building.
If not it may be a good idea for those with bikes on trailers to take some extra security for trailers and bikes, we don’t want any disappearing.
Hopefully will see you all there, Kev
Does any one know this or isn’t any one concerned .i certainly am not going to leave two bikes out side a b&b on a trailer all night.
Good Day to you both,I understand your concerns about the security of your machines with regards to the venue but I must say I have been there twice before with the Ariel owners and there has been no problems with theft reported from the site,I have left my machines there along with parts and never had anything stolen,It is a nice venue with plenty of room.I hope this goes some way towards your concerns.I will be going this weekend and to the Scott rally, alas with no machine at present.
Its a source of intense frustration that after trecking all the way to the north, this year the annual is almost on my doorstep but was announced after I had booked that weekend, were it otherwise my place would have been available. Its a nice place I am going there for a wings and wheels on Sept 4th good food too.
The area is the playground for the monthly wrinklies run of the Beds VMCC there are loads of good rides and interesting places
I hope you all enjoy it and fingers crossed arrange a return in 2017 (and announce it in good time 🙂
Well at least you made the effort to travel up north, this year i will be going via Brixham in Devon to Shuttleworth from Scotland, a good few miles and then return the same way.
As nobody has bothered to answer my other post I’ve presumed that nothing has been decided about next years event and nobody knows how many members have booked to go to Shuttleworth this year, unless it’s a secret, mind you I have signed the official secrets act when serving for my country.
With these events you cannot please everyone, someone has to travel afar and when dates are not forthcoming soon enough then you have to make plans and hope your free to attend.
A sensable solution is to have two Gatherings, one down south and one more central. This would then give members the choice to which event they want to attend. No moans about distance to travel etc, your choice.
Personally I think Shuttleworth is too far to travel but as editor I feel like I have to make the effort this year although I Will not be bringing my bike.
I will be asking for opinions for next year after this years event, I know that Abbotsholme is available for next year and that the school have no problems hosting the event as I’ve already spoken to them.
If Abbotsholme was dropped because of falling numbers attending the whole weekend and with no figures being made available for Shuttleworth which had early indications of low bookings why not make it a combined effort with another club. Maybe other manufactures will add a bit more interest to the weekend and not all Scott owners only own a Scott.
As for next year, who knows, its up to you to make your feelings known, if you don’t, how do the organisers know.
Next years event or events needs to be booked very soon, then everyone can plan.
Kev
I’m not very often free to attend the gathering but for what it’s worth, I think the suggestion of a combined club event is very sensible. Who knows, I may even get there myself next year ❗
I think combined club events (and indeed, committees, parts schemes, possibly even mags) are going to be inevitable in the years to come. Some of the smaller clubs will surely fold otherwise.
😀 😀 😀 Ali and I attended Abbotsholme in 2015 and had a great time, 1021 miles round trip. We also attended the VMCC/Scott do at Cadwell this year. Same mileage. I understand that there is a great venue available in Aviemore for 2017? We could make that one!! Regards Ted and Ali. 😀 😀 😀
Can I suggest that the main website “Events” page be updated with details of this year’s gathering?
Currently it shows details of the 2011 event at Abbotsholme so hardly likely to do much to attract new blood!
Only the webmaster has access to the main website, concerns about out-of-date information on it are beyond the influence of the Shuttleworth organiser.
A few friends have been helping Richard Martin, myself with ‘The Gathering’ part of the Shuttleworth event, and have been posting details on the adjacent ” ‘Scotting’ Events ” forum as well as announcements in Yowl and the Old Bike Mart. These are the best means available to us, we had hoped it would be enough. My first posting announcing ‘The Gathering’ date was on the 18th February.
We have made it clear that RM does not have Internet access, but if you ‘phone him to discuss your concerns, you will find him very helpful. There are about 40 booked in to the event for the whole weekend. The Sunbeam Club was approached to increase the numbers, but to no avail.
RM deserves the Club’s gratitude for the effort he has put in to this new event, it hasn’t been easy, and we trust it goes well.

Richard, it’s not the effort that’s put into these events that’s at question, I personally am trying to look forward to next years gathering, as most frustration is from a lack of communication in good time resulting in members booking up for other events holidays etc and are then unable to attend.
RM might not have Internet access but surly one of his helpers does??.
40 booked for the weekend is less than what I would have thought, how does this compare to previous years?.
Although in majority most events like this have very little theft, when members are used to being able to have their bikes securely locked over night at Abbotsholme, then some may forget to bring a security device, how would your insurance company deal with a loss that was not secured?.
Maybe some will think I’m out of turn or should just keep it shut, but can the club be successful without changes and up to date information being freely given. Over the years membership has dropped and new younger members are getting few and far between. By keeping things static, what is the incentive to join? Most company’s that do not change with the times fold, what’s the difference. Kev
Richard,
I am sorry that you appear to have taken my suggestion that the club’s website should carry the correct date of the gathering as criticism of the organisers/organisation.
The omission was actually pointed out to me by a non-Scott owning vintage bike enthusiast and I felt it may be welcomed if the error was drawn to the attention of the club so it could be corrected.
Thank you for the suggestion regarding me ringing Richard Martin but I can’t see that it would be of benefit given that he doesn’t have access to the website to make this change. I have therefore emailed the webmaster and suggested such a change.
Good luck with the event.
David
