Silencer supplier

Good morning all, any suggestions where I could source a silencer from? Suitable for 1931 TT rep, so Burgess, I guess. Mine is shiny outside but rotten under the chrome!

Armour Motor Products Ltd. have various sizes available – also supplied from the spares scheme – I got one a few years back.

Scotty, I forgot to add a key detail – my pipe is 2″ diameter, and when I last checked with Graham, his were 1 3/4. I did previously get a 2″ stub welded into an old Burgess type silencer, which worked but was a bit of a faff with replating etc.

Hi John

If you have trouble matching silencer and exhaust pipe diameters, a short length of tube may fit inside the exhaust pipe and outside the silencer,  making an undetectable joint that can be finished off with a chrome clamp

Back in September John Bennett was enquiring about a silencer for his ’31 TT rep.

Back about this time of year 2020 I posted an article in  Yowl about how to make your own Howarth silencer using parts from Graeme and bits and pieces readily available. The one I made is on our ’29 Rep and works very well, better than the old Burgess that was on it before. I guess the trick bit is obtaining a suitable fish tail, we had one luckily. The article has some pics which give you some idea of how it turns out.

If you haven’t already solved your problem give it a go.
