The December Yowl had an article from Steve Priston about corrosion problems with Silkolene Classic oil. In Australia in our warmer climate, we have always thought that SAE 40 oil would be better through a Pilgrim pump. When this heavier 2T oil became available Bob Mather and I went halves on a 5 litre pack which I started using. This article sounded warning bells at the time but I have only just got around to removing the crankcase doors….(the sidecar gets in the way just a tad ! ) and it all looks fine ! Nice and oily, and no sign of any corrosion or lack of lube. So…a bit of a mystery for Steve ?
Regards from sunny South Australia where it was 40C at the weekend .

Hi Men I have 2 gallons of the old red Silkoleen super two 40, the best oil ever for Scott engines,in my expierence. For sale now that i have sold my last Scott. Boo hoo! Postage would be expensive, unless you can collect.
Hi,
I have been in contact with Silkolene in England and they got in touch with the Australian agent who contacted me. It would appear that Classic 40 which they recommend for Scotts is not Supertwo 40 grade but a heavier grade of Comp 2 which I think is normally 30 grade.
Regards,
Bob Mather.
