Hi, I’m still trying to buy a 1931 to 1933 single-downtube Flying Squirrel frame and petrol/oil tank, preferably with a V5c, but anything considered, including a complete or semi-complete bike. The tank is the type that clamps in place and has no fore-and-aft inner tube fastening. It also has a thick steel bracket welded to the underside that carries the gearchange gate mounting. Cash waiting, or I can do a part-exchange with all sorts of goodies if preferred. My contact details are all listed in Yowl under ‘Section Information’ or send me a pm.

I’ve now managed to find a tank, so I now just need the frame, hopefully with a V5c, but anything considered.
Still looking for that single downtube frame 1931-1933, or project. CASH waiting !
Still looking…..

I managed to get a ‘basket case’ project on November 15th, missing a few parts, like rear stand, correct handlebar levers, gear lever and gate, and the brake shoes for the 7″ Webb front brake. It had briefly appeared on eBay, and Kev Bayliss very kindly tipped me off about it, so I went down to Kettering to have a look, and was able to buy it, with the seller taking it off eBay immediately. The brake shoes are currently the only real problem, so if anyone reading this has a pair available please let me know. For ease of identification they are steel fabrications, not cast alloy. My contact details are as listed in Yowl under Section Information, or send me a PM.

Are those the same as the Brough Superior?
I don’t know Chris.
I got steel shoes from the Brough spares man. My bike has Webb forks but not sure if it’s an Enfield or Webb hub. It’s the one that came from you. Am I barking up the wrong tree completely?
Hi Chris,
If it is the Webb 7″ brake it should normally have a water deflector rivetted onto the bottom of the brakeplate, and somewhere on the brakeplate it will have “The Webb” stamped into the metal. I’ll have a look on Mark Upham’s website to see if I can see what the B-S shoes look like. If you are referring to the Clubman Special, that would have had the Enfield front brake, or perhaps British Hub Co.. Thanks for your interest !
Brian
yes, sorry Brian, its Enfield 😳
The steel Webb shoes have patent number 186422 stamped on them.
