Martin,
And this is my last post of the Forum, it was a fair question.
Regards
Steve
Hi Martin,
I did not intend to imply that “the committee was ridiculously out of touch with the membership and the modern world”, those words were certainly not mine. No insult was intended, so I apologize if my post could be read as such. I appreciate that the committee is giving up their time to run the club and that it is a job that for one reason or another, many of the membership would not want to do.
My post was intended to be a constructive observation.
I fully agree with you that the groundswell of membership opinion expressed at section meetings does not necessarily tally with the opinions aired on the forum.
However, I would point out that the same could be said for opinions expressed at section meetings and even the AGM. It has been pointed out elsewhere in the forum that attendance at section meetings and the AGM is fairly low, so opinions expressed at these meetings do not necessarily reflect the views of the membership as a whole. I venture to say that people who attend section meetings and certainly the AGM are a “vocal minority”.
The only way to get the views of the entire membership is to hold a ballot. Even then, many will not use their vote, but in not voting, they will have expressed a view (i.e don’t care).
I will leave it to our section secretary to feed back the views of the South London Section, but my take from last week’s meeting was that no member expressed any support for the committee’s action with respect to the forum, while the majority expressed views against.

😀 Hi Martin! No one has thought, or even suggested, that the Management Committee are “Out of touch” with popular opinion. Indeed we are all well aware of what it takes to run such a prestigious club as the Scott Owners Club. That is why a “Vocal Minority” are so passionate about saving the SOC. I am one of those vocal minorities who aren’t in the SOC. Why not? Coz I’m the Editor of a vibrant and expanding free Scott Newsletter. We are immediate, we respond quickly and are welcoming to anyone with an INTEREST in the marque. We aint trying to put down the club matey. 🙄 We are trying to steer members towards you. Why dont we all work together. Roger Moss has asked the SOC to use our copy free at anytime. We have asked, indeed invited, the Editor to use the newsletter to spread the word. There has been the response of a membership application form. Thats fair enough son but it aint proactive by any stretch of the imagination! 🙄 (and Ive got a big one! Imagination that is) Cheers Mate! Ted
And, as my final “Swansong” on this forum. May I be allowed to quote the late John Griffiths (much lamented Chairman of te VMCC) who faced a similar situation. ^How many of our members actually ride thier bikes? How many still can!” 🙄
Steve,
In answer to your question ( a few posts back now) I think Martin has confirmed that most of the committee are watching these postings. I have also sent some detailed suggestions to the committee suggesting how we could revamp the website and forum in a way which i hope could cater for both sides of the argument within the Club. I’m waiting for some responses but recognise that everyone has busy lives and commitments so it might take a little while.
Cheers,
Paul
Glad to hear that Paul! 🙄 The open forum is the “Public face” of the Scott Owners Club. Its got enthusiasts with a passion for the marque. Who would deny such passionate people an open forum? (I have refrained from continuing further lest I alienate some members) However! Because of this open discussion I have now (as Editor of the Open to all, free Scott Newsletter) decided that we will advertise “Bikes for sale” and a video section in forthcoming issues. I have taken this decision with some reluctance as I (we ) did not wish to ” Step on the toes of the SOC!”. However, Committees move at a snails pace (As is their wont!) And as a benevolent dictatorship we don’t! The next Newsletter has been producted in this format and I urge all Scotties (Beam me up Scottie!) to access it!!! @ mossengineering.co.uk Ted 😆
Was having a look at the debate re closing the SOC Open Forum today when I came across this from Richard Blackburn ” then you can table a motion for the AGM next month!” I understand that this didnt happen or was not up for discussion? Makes you thinkl Huh!! 🙄 🙄 Anyway. June the 15th seems to be the cut off point for the closure and also incidently when Scotts will be racing at Cadwell Park Lincs!! Plug!! 😀 😀 😀 Ted
Just received an email that the open forum will be closed as decided without any discussion or input from the SOC membership, either informally or via the AGM. 8) 8) 8) The times we live in Eh? Therefore may I, as Editor of the free on-line Scott Newsletter, take this last opportunity to say that we will continue as normal and the next edition will have a “Click” box to ask all of our many (600+) subscribers to register whether they wish an alternative forum to be established. Regards to All Scott Enthusiasts! Ted Parkin editorejp@live.co.uk. Sign up NOW!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀
