Super Fork assembly

Dear all,

Could someone please share any good techniques for getting the spring cap back on the Super forks please?  Is it best done on or off bike?  It would be good if I could get it back without destroying the paint that I added 🙂  I’m guessing its best to compress the big compression spring as far as possible before trying to pull the other spring out of the stem?

I use a wire fence tensioner.  Put a rod through the fence tensioner and mount on the forks where the wheel axle fits. Use bailer twine or similar between the other end of the tensioner and the spring. Tighten up the tensioner until you can fit the cap. Simples!

Thanks Lewis!  Brute force it is then 🙂  I hadn’t considered pulling it from the bottom but that clearly minimises the risk of damaging the paintwork.

Ah, I have a fence tensioner somewhere so that must be worth a try.  I used some strap ratchets when taking it off to try and relieve as much spring compression as possible but they were not really strong enough.
