Taper roller head bearings

I needed to replace the taper roller head bearings in my racer and my bearing supplier told me that the cones are no longer available with 1.062″ inner diameter. I tried the SOC Spares scheme. They had none and had been asked for them several times. Does anybody know of the existance of a cache. Perhaps the Spares Scheme would be interested if so. If not and if anyone is really desperate, then it is possible to get a set with an identical outer cup and inner cone, except the cone will have a smaller bore that would have to be ground out.

I will enquire of my stockist.
I note following
OD Original 2.125″ Fag 50.292mm 1.980″ but housing could be sleeved
Bore Orig. 1.0625″ Fag 1.0625″ OK
Length Orig 20mm Fag 14mm can make spacers

The data sheet could be misleading

Overall assembly length “T” is given as 14mm
but
“B” that is the length of the cone and depicted as within the assembly is given as 14.732

I am sure they include the projecting cage although not shown.

It then comes down to the price of a spacer and a sleeve for the FAG and a ground out bore for the Timken.
Nothing is impossible,— just expensive!

How about an angular contact bearing?

FAG, (no I ‘aint got shares!), do one that is 35 x 47 x 7 (No. 71807-B-TVH). I know it looks on the light side but surely in this application it’d do? On the up side there is no grinding required just sleeves to be made. FAG do another in the same range with a 55mm O.D. that can be had with seals and if memory serves the outer ring will pop off so holding for grinding and cleaning grinding debris off afterwards would be no problem but the question is could it stand 1mm/side off?

On balance I think I’d go with the smaller size and look how much weight you’ll be saving! . . .

Forget the above, apparently they are some sort of super precision job and retail at over £200 a pair!
