.Well, my dream of going to Abbotsholme by Scott is over. It seems like deja vu as I will come on my modern Yamaha instead…. just like on the Dutch Scott Run last year.
This morning at 10:30 I finally rolled my two speeder of the workbench where it has been for the last 4 months. Those that follow my blog will know I have done quite some work on it and spend many, many hours in the workshop. Far to many says my wife…
One the first testrun (in the rain..) the Scott accelerated perfectly (smaller drive sprocket and 2 teeth more on the LG sprocket but when doing over 40 mph the engine simply starved. Not enough petrol. I also noticed the drippers doing almost nothing and the fork seemed crooked.
At home I saw that the failing drippers were due to the vent hole in the oiltank cap was blocked. I straightened the fork as far as possible and went for another test ride. My goal was to go to the child day-care to pick up my daughter. Well not pick up, but to show the bike to her as she is very enthusiastic about my bikes already (she is 1,5 years of age…). Below she is inspecting the freshly laced front wheel.
The engine was still severely starving and I also noticed that the exhaust was coming apart. The endcaps were coming loose, I guess I overdone the dressing of the welds before I got the exhaust coated… And to make things worse all of a sudden my rear chain snapped! Not at the connecting link, just somewhere in the middle.
Somehow Scotts and I are not made for each other… Of course I could get some new chain, fix the exhaust and fit a new tap, all before I take the ferry tomorrow… But for my own peace of mind, and not in the least for my wife’s I decided it enough is enough.
So the Yamaha it is…. again. But of course there always is a bright side. Going on the SRX means no heavy tools and spare oil to carry!
