I am quite reluctant to bring this up but regarding the new Scott website, and accepting that the “Builders” have spent quite some time!! setting it up. Quite frankly it is a bit of a disaster from the “user friendly” ideal. Trying not to be a Luddite here but WHY was the old site deemed to be in need of an update? One hopes the the builders and indeed the club instigators, could answer these simple questions. Personally having used the old site and found it to be. 1.. Simple to use..2 Interesting to read.. 3 Relpies to problems and questions almost instant. I wonder what happened? I appreciate that many people have laboured over this update and appreciate their time. However, as has been stated above. Longtime “Teething ” troubles seem to have progressed to a “normal” state of affairs.. BTW. Can I ask what the cost was to the SOC to update the old one? My regards to all.. Ted
Hi Ted, I agree nothing wrong with the old website, as for the new a complete disaster and as I stated sometime ago unfit for purpose and we should be claiming a refund of the £7200 that It cost.
Communication is the key and information as to whether changes are to be made. When it might happen and if a return to the old format is even possible just is not forthcoming.. I have a feeling that it is a waiting game, hoping a new webmaster will put his or her head above the parapet and sort it out. I have suggested that we pay to have it re formatted so that the webmaster position could be open to a less computer literate person. Most of us only understand that coffee in the keyboard makes our computers difficult to use. There is a good facebook site which covers day to day requests for help and advice which people like me can ask simple questions and if appropriate help with our own non Scott information based on our ” other” experiences. Lack of use of this site by the senior club members signifies some serious discontent, and whilst various management positions are filled and no doubt cost them much time ( and I bet money) the club would be well advised to make getting this web site back to what it was , with its vast store of information, pictures, and day to day chat. Ted Parkin is correct in his observations. I will add Ted. Mr Bones is now on the road, extensively re engineered . Straightened frame , fork rebuild , wheel bearing brakes etc by my son. He claims 85 MPH at two thirds throttle with a bit of vibration still to resolve. Looks as it was . I would put a picture on if the site would let it.
This is what became of Mr Bones.
84mph on GPS speedo with more left,(off road of course!),vibration is indeed an issue to resolve but ok at road speeds.
Steve
I am glad you bike has a better performance than this site !
GORDON BENNET PHIL!!!.. THAT is one hell of a good job mate.. 85MH with more to come! When I rode on the video I sent you it really had some acceleration… Excellent rebuild Phil.. “”We are not worthy”” Regards Ted
I thought Ted Parkin you would like my son Stephen’s rebuild and reconstruction of Mr Bones. He kept the overall look including the pipe as your conception. It has apart from the engine been down to the last nut and bolt and as we have a very comprehensive engineering works, lots of hidden work has been done. Totally new aluminium tanks, mag support ,exhaust frame modifications and many features gleaned from Scott experts and periodicals. He is a Norton fan and one of those he appeared with at Beamish. It is of course why this site has to be put right. Three of us Peter Stephen and me, old man Phil have 4 and 3/4 Scotts but no marque experience. The average age in the club must be over 60 and to keep old bike clubs going it must appeal to a younger end who use social media and web information constantly.
Getting back to the original post. I haven’t used the site much lately but today I have found that…
1 I cannot get a PM
2. I cannot contact a member.
3. No edit facility.
4. Cannot put my email contact on my post
It makes me wonder why we bother..Regards
I only had a few months of the old site. It gave me easy access to pictures and previous posts and links to other useful connections whilst I was fetteling my newly acquired Scott . Until these features return this website will be underused. The Facebook site is good but this one should be much better and have records which new members can get information and advice from experienced ones. As a member of only a couple of years I don’t feel comfortable in commenting but just disappointed that no progress is being made. There may be good reasons we are not party to, but I still live in hope.
Indeed Phil.. I had a look at the Facebook Scott page.. I was impressed.. Had a word with Brian and am about to join.. its exactly like the old SOC site was…many thanks mate.. I suppose that this site now seems to be redundant!! regards
