Just today I went to the bearing shop to order tapered roller bearing for my Scott steering head. They told me this is some specific size. And it seems to be bit weird to me as well… inner diameter is 1″ (25,4 mm) but outside diameter in in the metric size, exactly 54 mm. First moment I thought this one was somehow remade, but in the afternoon I visited Mr. Simek who showed me new (old stock) bearing exactly in this size. Mine is marked F1760XL. Mr. Simek’s is weird, as outside ring is marked 1730, innet part 1780… is it some later substitute? Is (was) this standard size used at Scotts? How do you solve the problem? There could be option to buy one with outside diameter 56,896 mm and grind it to 54 mm. Guy in the shop wasn’t able to tell me how is the inner diameter of the outer ring, if there is enough of the material to grind it. Someone knows?
Attached are the picter of Mr. Simeks bearing and the box.
Thanks, Martin
