I am sure that a good few of you will remember Tony Rutter’s sucessful exploits on big Ducati’s a few years back. The British Historic Racing team asked me to take my bike to the Telford Off Road show. We all know how a Scott draws the crowds and it was admired by many amongst whom was Tony Rutter.
Our long time SOC member Stan Thomas was there with his sidekick Earnie, (He had left his milk cart at home) Stan and Earnie knew Tony Rutter and so brought him over to see the bike and try it for size. He said it was set up like a proper racer and could he have a ride at the VMCC Festival of 1000 bikes. James Hewing CEO of the VMCC was well pleased to have another top name aboard a Vintage bike. It does put a bit more onus on me to be sure it is in top condition, but the publicity is very good for keeping the Scott name in the public eye. Classic bike came over recently to see how Scotts were rebuilt, so there should be a couple of pages there in the near future.
We have been doing very well for publicity recently and I congratulate everybody who has been involved. The next big step would be to see another Scott join in the Historic Racing. If anyone has a bike they would like to see out, but would like a young rider to use it, please let me know and I would be delighted to find a jockey.
Final news. Paul Dobbs is coming back in May and we will try to arrange some outings. He has become quite famous for his exploits on the Scott and the publicity helps everybody. Kindest Regards to all Roger
