Today I took out the fork of my two speeder. I wanted to check the bearings as the seller told me those needed attention. Well, I guess he was wrong as there was no play to be found and all the cups were in a tip top condition! Did loose a few balls in the proces however…
I also wanted to check the stem for signs of fatique, cracks etc. All the reports on forkbreakage somehow got me worried. The stem looks fine.
To set things straight… as far as I understand the most common breakage point is about an inch from the bottom? See picture below

Am I right?
By the way, I think the wall thickness looks very, very thin at the top. Never seen that before. But as far as I can see from the drawings the stem is tapered on the inside from about 1 third from the top, is it?
