Two Speed Gear Problems

Can anyone say whether excess oil in the 2 speed gear is likely to cause the low gear clutch to slip badly? I was messing about with my 2 speed gear this weekend (fitting a new kick-start return spring amongst other things) and noticed the problem the next day. The only cause I can really think of is the fact that I inadvertantly left the gear oiling tap open over night which also caused a large deposit on the garage floor! If it is oil saturation is there any way of dealing with the problem other than just running it off (at a very slow speed and high revs. much to the amusement of the locals)?

I have had this problem in the past with my 2 speed, and it is easily fixed. Disconnect your oil feed, and was out with degreaser. We have found those pressure pack cans of degreaser work a treat. If you use a synthetic oil – it is too good, and will cause the clutch to slip. The only other thing, make sure you haven’t got the push pull rod too far out of adjustment. (Thats the rod that runs through the centre, the little washers inside control how far it travels, all this is written up else where by more technical people than me!) Hope this is of some help. Hello two speeder exponents!

Did Catrina ever get a response to her previous enquiry regarding how electric assisted start could be applied to a two speeder? John Underhill from Bristol has done it, but the details have never been revealed, and I do not know if the installation was successful.

Does any reader have a source of brake shoe relines for the small two speeder brake? The type with the external circular spring that fits in a groove around the outside of the shoe and underneath the linings. Our usual supplier says they are too fiddly and he doesn’t want to do them.
