Velo gearbox

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help.

After many enjoyable miles on my 1949 Scott I have come to the conclusion that a four speed gearbox would make lighter work of the steeper hills.

I have a Velocette  gearbox but can not find any information on what is required to fit it successfully. Any information would be gratefully received.

I only know of a Velo box fitted to a Brum Scott. Details are in Yowl and Technicalities.  I don’t think that it will help you much as the frames are so different but it may give you a few ideas. I did ride it some years ago and found the mix of ratios quite good.

Many thanks for your feed back. You are quite correct, the gearbox is far to tall to fit between two of the frame tubes.

I will just have to get use to a gentle lope up the steeper hills.

Some Scott gearboxes have a higher 2nd gear. The Medium/Close has much better set of ratios than the Wide. The Vintage Close has a very high 1st and is like a close ratio 4 speed box without bottom!
