It may not be easy to see postings or additions to this site. It can be used and should be. Photos ( very good ones) have be put on the gallery. A new member from Hong Kong has been able to get information useful to him . There should be constant communication going on so that improvements and or change can be made. I have no idea how many look at this site , if you do then respond. Phil

I could not agree more Phil, the trouble is that for many of us this site is non-intuitive and not easy to use. We are told that it will get better with more use but I don’t see any sign of that happening. If you used the old site you will appreciate how the number of postings have dropped since it’s demise, with many, me included now using the Facebook group. We need this site to be restored to state that everyone can easily use for the benefit of all Scott owners. Derek
I used to be by far the most prolific user of the old website, with well over a thousand posts, but suspect that with the plummeting number of recent posts, members are struggling with this new website, and also put off by the gloomy black background when Scott Purple would have been so much nicer. Everybody should have a look, for comparison, with the Velocette LE Owners’ website. A model of ease and simplicity, and no, I don’t own one. I suspect that only a small number of members use this site, compared to previous usage, which is lamentable…
Two members run the Scott Facebook page “Scott Motorcycles (+ later models and derivatives)” and it is great, lively, easy to use, easy to post any number of photos, and clearly reaching a lot of non-SOC people.
Brian and Derek. I have used the old site which was very useful in trying to get my Scott road worthy. I have now started to use the two sites you talk about. Communication is paramount both in Technicalities and in general information. Also nothing wrong with small talk relevant to Scotts. It would be nice if we had indication of progress in Website improvement. AS a new member and now a fair age ,I am a bit reluctant to try to force the issue. I dont know the structure of the club or many of its active members. The recent Gathering was a very good in getting the feel of the club and I met two members who live within a mile of me.That makes 5 bikes in our village and two more in the family.
I used to look at the old forum all the time and found it very useful. I have to say, that this site is a great disappointment. It’s catch 22, I don’t bother looking very often and therefore don’t contribute because there isn’t very often anything on it. I’m not Facebook orientated so it’s quite a loss to me. Shame.
If this cost the club £7,500 I think its about time to put a claim in to get our money back,as it is unsuitable for purpose. It seems most of the information from the old site is lost. There does not seem be any order it jumps from 2 hrs.to 3 mths. then 2 years then 2 days.? what a shambles. Ted.
I must admit I was a more frequent visitor to the previous format And I agree that the LE forum is an example or how a forum should function ( I currently have 3 LE’S ) I think the original format of the LE site was created by a IT student but has gone through updates and changes over the years. The douglas one is pretty good also Andy
I note all of the criticism of this site. Whilst I acknowledge that there were initial problems, I have tried to address enquiries concerning access quickly and in the majority of cases believe that problems have been dealt with promptly. To be fair, many of the problems can only be described as user error.
The position of webmaster in the Club is vacant at present. The site is designed to be accessible and can be edited or amended by anyone who is given access. Perhaps one of you would like to volunteer to take the post or simply to assist and put right the problems you are complaining of?
Dear All
As I am new to the group I don’t thinks its my place to pass judgement. When my bike arrives in Hong Kong at the end of next month I am sure I will be posting all the time with question on both this forum and Facebook, with no reference of other Scotts mine being the first one in the country I was hoping this site would be a good scours of information. I have sent emails direct to some of the sections in the contact area but as of yet not received a reply from one single question, So I presume the email addresses do not work or people don’t want to answer, if the latter is true I will concentrate on Facebook. One of my requests was to get a hold of a digital copy of Yowl October 2018 as there is a section on honeycomb radiator manufacturing, Something that I need to make myself is a new radiator and learn how to spoke wheels. I’m hoping to finish the bike by next January doing all the work myself, mainly weekends as I travel to 3 countries a week on business.
Regards
Stuart
Thank you Lewis for the response. I am 80. and not that computer savey. I am at work having a coffee. What I want is an easy initial, access which I have. I like to see the numbers viewing any post which I don’t have. Posting is not difficult, but picking it up again is not easy. Picking up past threads on a subject is not easy either. No club official appears to be connected and things like gallery and events are not used to any degree .Other useful sites are not now available The recent photos of the gathering are great but little else. Events must be constantly used and kept up to date. I have been a manager for many years and now revert to a machinist. However I think the way out of this problem ( it is not user friendly ) Is to pay some computer expert to review the site giving them a list of desired inclusions and changes. (Should really be free from whoever constructed this new site.) Once done you might find it easier to get a webmaster who should get a small retainer.I think we have to understand that new members want to be informed and feel free to ask questions, have access to club officers without having to follow long trails. If I had the ability with computers I would do it . I have given you my points and if you look at my posts been positive in that it should be used to find its weaknesses that are reducing its use . Ask your past users they will add other features they feel should be included.. Regards Phil
Lewis,
Thank you for your appraisal of the web site use, however if you think many of the problems can only be described as “ user error” it must indicate that either the membership have suddenly become less computer savvy ( though in my case that would be difficult) or the site itself is unfriendly and non-intuitive. I am sure that like myself many members use the sites for other makes of vehicle and generally I find no trouble in navigating the ones I use.
I think all the membership applaud and appreciate the work done on behalf of the club by yourself and the officers of the club and I for one would gladly help if I had the skills required but alas I do not.
Unfortunately this does not help in making the website more usable for the members many of who I guess are ,like myself in the older part of life’s spectrum. I think Phil’s suggestion of employing a competent person to sort out the site is probably the way to go
Regards Derek
I am in the same position as Phil and Stuart I am 83 and not very well up on computers but had no problems with the old site nor with any other sites I browse. Surely if you pay to have a site designed by a professional you would expect it to be sorted by that person. If you paid someone to design a machine and it did not function as it should you would not expect to be told to stop complaining and sort it out yourself.
Many excellent pictures posted to the Gallery of the Gathering at Beamish. How do you post pictures to the Gallery ?
Phil – you need to have access as an editor of the site to post pictures to the gallery, although you can post pictures to the Forum if you wish. If you want your own pictures posted to the gallery you can email them to me and I will oblige. This applies to anyone who wants to post pictures to the any gallery of any sort, so please feel free. I am looking forward to receiving pictures from the Southern Gallery for example.
There has been another raft of modifications undertaken on the site today.
Currently the maximum image file size that can be attached to a thread is 512kb.
In this day and age most images are much larger than this and most folk wish to pour over detailed images, even if those images take a tad longer to load.
I would suggest increasing the upper limit significantly (4Mb perhaps) to obviate the need to reduce file sizes before upload and to give us all some images to inspect closely.
That may be a quick and easy modification that would make a world of difference…
Best Wishes to all here,
Peter Crowder
