Congratulations to the owner of the above post-war Shipley Scott seen on Cleethorpes promenade today (Sunday). I’ve not seen this bike before in the area, so, is he a member of the Club? is the bike on John’s machine register? I tried to flag him down, but he probably thought I was a geriatric nutter trying to commit suicide !! It sounded great, burgessing through the Harleys & scooters we get on the “prom”, & whatever detail I could see in passing, it seems to be a good original specimen !!

This bike is on the register as a Murphy Special. Perhaps the current ownner would like to update the description.

Has any one seen this bike since it was seen at Cleethorps? Ive been wondering if it was the one I used to own, if it is then when I had got it, it had got a Ted Murphy special engine and a Clamhil sprung hub. Mat Holder said it would be faster than a Clubman. I only sold mine when I bought my first car. The worst thing I could have done

I’m afraid I didn’t notice anything unusual about the rear end. It definately had full-width front hub, dowty forks, & what seemed to be the standard full-width hub on the back wheel. I just thought it was a bog-standard Post-war Shipley at the time. Bruce[/b]

WFO 398 Regarding the recent discussion on this bike, well thanks for the compliment Bruce and you are right, the bike is basically standard except for the fact that it has been converted to petroil. However it wasn’t allways thus, e.g. it had a swinging arm frame when I bought it.
There’s a bit of a story to it so I might write a small piece in yowl about it.
Sorry it’s taken so long to answere the query, but I forgot my password and then there was acomplication in getting a new one, anyway Paul has sorted it out for me now, many thanks.

Thanks Tony for clearing things up! I’m not surprised that the Clamhil hub went, I’m told they were worse than the Triumph version, which was about as good as a barely inflated tyre !!
