Windscreens

In the late 1920’s and throughout the 1930’s many racing motorcycles had a wire mesh “flyscreen” cum windscreen consisting of about a semicircle of mesh that was fastened to the front racing numberplate. They were usually fitted to KTT Velocettes and Manx Nortons. Is anyone aware of a source of supply? I would try and make one but I’m put off by not knowing how to make the outer “rim” from sheet metal into a semicircular rim without it crinkling up.

I once made a flyscreen similar to the one that you describe.I used some 3/16″ round steel bar which was strong enough to do the job but was easy to manipulate into shape.I got this from a b&q along with the mesh.

Its round bar on my old manx screen too but only 1/8th diameter
my guess its what was called ‘black iron wire’ and then painted
