    Eddie, Bob,

Thank you for your replies. I’m pretty sure it’s an internal problem but how do I check and adjust the alignment of the dogs?

    Regards

I’ve just been reading Scott Technicalities regarding my own problems and notice that ‘A Beginners Guide to the Scott Gearbox’ by a certain Brian Marshall (V16 12 Oct 1990) says that ‘Problems can occur when people lose the ballbearing out of the selector bellcrank lever. They unwittingly replace it with a 1/4″ ballbearing instead of the correct 9/32″ bearing, and then get mysterious selection problems!’

Which is correct please, 9/32″ or 7/32″ as stated in the above post?

    Regards

Just look at the centrefold photo of the ’47 Flying Squirrel in the latest Yowl for the answer to your problem. After seeing that bike at Ardingly I fitted the same external springs to my ’49 model and it cured the non-returning lever issue I was experiencing. I find the front brake on my bike with the compensator to be excellent by the way, but then I’ve been riding a Sunbeam S8 for over 25 years!

A search of the internet indicates that IAT stands for Inorganic Additive Technology. OAT stands for Organic Acid Technology.

I’m now very confused. One recommendation says use only IAT antifreeze, which I understand to be blue, but others say use red antifreeze, which I understand to be OAT. Can someone clarify this please?

2 litres of Halford’s Silicate Antifreeze Concentrate (IAT) is just £11.99.
