I used Anglia Wheels in Halstead, North Essex.
    https://www.anglia-wheels.co.uk/
It was painless and they were done how I asked them to be. Not sure what else to say, other than I wish life/restoration was always like that!

I was told the wheels are meant to all painted, but went for unpainted stainless spokes because they look nice, and if I ever change my mind, can always paint them.

BTW, I think my new rims must have been (wax?) polished after coating; the local tyre place used stick-on balance weights which promptly fell off…..

I bought a part for a bevel Ducati from California for ~£600 and got stiffed for about £120 duties. Previously bought much lower cost items and had no such issue – I’ve been told that there is a lower threshold below which C&E don’t bother, but I don’t know where that threshold is.

Bit of an old topic, but the 97 RON super unleaded supplied by Esso in the south-east / south of England is currently ethanol free. However, don’t know how long this will continue.

BTW, if you want to check if petrol has ethanol in, take a small sample in a measuring cylinder, add an equal measure of water, give it a quick shake then let it separate out. If it contains ethanol, the amount of petrol will reduce as the ethanol is preferentially absorbed by the water. Currently, most UK petrol is about 5% ethanol, so you’re not looking for a big change, and please dispose of the residue sensibly.

Thanks for that – I’ll have a word with the wheel builder re the paint, but will stick with the 19″ rims – catalogue states 26 x 3.25, which I believe is a modern 3.25-19 (though admittedly not as elegant as a 21″).

Thanks to both of you for responding so quickly – I’m sure I’ll be asking for more advice over the coming months!

Thank you. A risk of appearing a complete numpty, would they have been painted in a single operation after the wheel had been built, or would the individual components (spokes, nipples etc) have been painted. For the purposes of my wheel build, it would be cheaper and easier to do it all of a piece – unlikely I’d want to adjust them in the future (never done it on my other bikes over the years), but there may be some good reason not to?.
