A couple of days ago my next-door neighbour called round to tell me that he had just had an operation on his shoulder, and that the man in the next bed told him that he knew where there was a Scott Squirrel for sale, and when my neighbour asked where he was given some very vague directions:- It’s in a garage that does MOT tests only near to the big supermarket on Oak Tree Lane, Mansfield, Notts..
Needless to say I was round there pretty quickly and soon found it. Much to my disappointment it turned out to be a postwar Flyer, but no doubt someone may be interested. The details are as follows:-
1949/50 model 596cc Flying Squirrel in good state of presentation and seemingly in correct spec. order, except that the ‘orrible rising pulley front brake gismo that bolts to the front mudguard has been replaced with a Brum Scott type twin cable attachment on the handlebar lever.
Engine number is DPY 5398 which is correct for 1950. The plot then thickens because the registration number ( HA5270 ), relates to a 1929 TT replica, as does the V5 frame number, which is 2212M……
In the gloom of the roof storage area I could not see the frame number that ought to be on the headstock.
Obviously this will need sorting out with the DVLA and enquiries to the Club Registar before handing over any loot!!!
Interested parties should contact the Vendor (Dave) to arrange a visit.
