Not strictly Scott but maybe someone here can help. I need a steering head nut for my Velo Mac. It has Webb girders and the nut is 1 inch 26 tpi.
Thanks,
Chris
I Know there are a lot of these about but none with that measurement.
I am 5′ 9” but a definite nut. Will that do ?
regards,
Peter S
Are you sure it is 26 TPI. Standard BSC 1″ is 28 TPI.
From memory, not always reliable, steering head BSC in 1″ is always 28 TPI. I think 15/16″ and 1 1/16 X 28 TPI, are steering head sizes as well.

I had great trouble sourcing this nut for my ’36 MAC, even eventually sending it to a well-known stainless nuts and bolts manufacturer to copy…..he kept it for a month then declined to take it any further saying he was “too busy”..
Another VOC club member took pity on me and sent one gratis; it was a new repro in stainless, complete with the steering damper dimple correctly machined. He had a spare as he’d had a small batch commissioned and had one spare remaining, so clearly there’s a shortage.
Interesting comments chaps and thank you. I had better check the thread again as I jumped to the conclusion that it was 26 tpi. Without actually measuring 😳
Have you tried Grove Classics. They have quite a few steering head damper nuts.
Chris.
I had a look on their website without luck but will give them a ring, thanks. I thought this would be quite a simple search but it’s proving anything but.
They never used to stock fork parts for bikes this old when I tried them. Worth a go, but unless they’ve changed their policy re Webb parts you”ll be disappointed.
Are they still as disorganised as ever? 🙁
Correct on both counts I’m afraid, Tman. Mind you lack of organisation seems very common in this buiseness, much like the one we all ride the products of, sadly.
OK. In that case, I suggest that you contact Draganfly (note spelling) Motorcycles. They could well have what you are looking for.
Chris.
Also, I noticed that someone in Fishtail magazine has started making rigid girder stem/bottom yoke replacements for KTT/KSS/MSS girder forks.
He may have the nuts or, alternatively, be able to advise where to obtain them ; ring VOC member on 07719 858 980.
Chris.
I’ve found one thanks. An outfit who make stainless items for sprung frame Velos. Ordered it yesterday, arrived today. Now I’ve seen someone else listing them! Talk about buses. Many thanks for all the suggestions.
I’m also now looking for a Webb fork steering head nut for a 29 Flyer, also need some star washers & friction discs for same, lastly my forks have been ahem…..modified so need a good diagram showing correct parts & sequence for forthcoming rebuild, any thoughts please guys ?

This is what I have at this time.
You’re nearly there! Interestingly, there was a 1938 Flying Squirrel wreck on Ebay a couple of months ago. I don’t think it got a bid from its starting price of about £2500. If I had had the money I would have bought it for the parts (sacrilege but lets assume that the engine was beyond redemption) on the basis that a pair of heavyweight Webbs could set you back £2000. Regarding the nut, I think they are all the same and suddenly seem to be for sale all over the show, including Ebay.
