Steering head nut wanted

Thanks Chris, the items seen above I suspect are wrong for these forks, whilst they may look familiar the internal diameter of star washer & friction plate are too large so they would float around on the spindles, the top item is two items ‘riveted’ together for some reason but suspect they should be separate, if anyone has similar maybe a picture would help me work out what I have & what’s required.

Hi NIgram,
If you really get stuck for star washers and friction discs, to make star washer use a wood saw. Soften the blade, cut out the star washers, bend to shape then reharden (red hot and quench) and then temper (heat to blue and quench). For friction discs, thin plywood works.

The holes in the friction disk and star washers are not too big. They don’t sit on the spindles, they fit over the boss on the threaded friction adjusting arm.
Friction disks can be bought online.

Thank you Dave, I’ m looking at a few options this weekend & have also bought a Webb forks & front brake maintenance manual so hopefully will be able to work out what goes where, the strange item I’ve photographed seems to be two parts riveted together, trying to w irk out if it’s a mod or originally like that.

They shouldn’t be riveted together. The flat propeller shaped piece screws onto the link and it’s movement in and out as it is rotated, adjusts the pressure on the friction disk to adjust damping. It could be that someone has used an upper link arm that doesn’t have the thread for the adjuster and so has riveted them together.

That all makes sense, thank you Dave, this weekend should throw some spanners out of the works I hope & then we can start rebuilding in the correct order with an idea of what the correct parts should look like & how they work…. maybe 😀
