You might try removing the failed liner from the tank by tumbling it with a handful of wood screws inside as Acetone will most likely destroy a fiberglass tank. Here in the States much of our petrol contains 10% ethanol which I have personally seen “soften” a fiberglass Norton Fastback tank when left in over the winter months. Once the petrol was drained the tank “firmed up” over a period of a few months but was still a bit distorted.

I have had both Kreem and epoxy liners fail. In both cases the only way to strip out the liner is to fill the tank with acetone and let it sit for a week. I’ve protected the paint during this process by applying multiple layers of kitchen plastic wrap and Vaseline with a layer of aluminum foil. Caswell in the US sells a very good liner as well as a masking gel to protect the tank exterior during stripping. Just make sure if/when you redline that the interior of the tank is spotlessly clean and devoid of rust.

    James,

The Vintage Motorcycle Club in the UK have the Scott factory records and will date your machine for a fee.  I had them do mine with interesting results as they had no record of the gearbox but had the engine, frame and serial numbers as well as the dispatch date and destination in their files.

    Best regards,

Cable is Teflon lined and operates smoothly and snaps back when released but what are the quick threads you are referring to?

    thanks

I too would like information on this subject. I have a ‘28 TT Replica with cylinder oiling ports and the oil reservoir(?) which have been plugged off. Can someone please share photos/diagrams of the system? Thank you.
