Hi James Re Brum Scott VYJ 141.Info. I have on this machine is

Ex works 12 August 1963,— Engine Number DMS 2122,—Frame Number S1319. It was advertised in Old Bike Mart (June 1997)for £2500. it lost its original registration (1342 PF) when it was sold by Classic bike dealer Andy Tieren,in March 1994. Hope this might be of some interest! Regards Geoff. PS Looks very good now,nice restoration!

Bought the “museum queen” orphan Scott ! Too bad the seller was a immovable stone on his too high of price 😕 The frame number is different than the one quoted below its # 1320 (we think, its hard too read, I’m home now and will look harder ). I need workshop manuals , owners manuals; anything to help me work on it.

It wasn’t unusual for the Shipley factory to get numbers mixed up in their despatch records and I guess Matt Holder could do the same with the Birmingham Scotts. Check with the club registrar to see if he has any info.

It has a haphazard stamping on the left side of the steering head is there somewhere else to look?

Hi James, I have had another look at the register i keep on Birmingham Scotts and think if your frame Is S 1320 my records are adrift by one,so i will shift your machine up one! I had no details on S 1320/1/2/3/4,so they proberley no longer exist.

OK and I’ll look at it to confirm the number. Can I run the bike with premix until the pump catches up or do I need to oil the crank seals somehow?

Absolutely NO to running on premix as the main bearings and crankcase sealing glands will get no oil, unless it has been converted to run on it by a previous owner.

How do I proceed? Can I determine if it has been modified ? I have a starter rear wheel roller , I could drive the rear wheel without sparkplugs until I see flow in the pilgrim.

On another note I found a real nice late model Scott brochure and could do a good scan if the club needs a scan of it. It folds out to about a 24″ square , the cover features a happy chap with goggles on his helmet and a scarf riding an all purple Scott ,the brochure has a pink hue to it.

the number is correct at 1320 however the “2” has been double stamped it seems. I will post a close up if possible. There is no “S” that I could find
