Back in September John Bennett was enquiring about a silencer for his ’31 TT rep.

Back about this time of year 2020 I posted an article inĀ  Yowl about how to make your own Howarth silencer using parts from Graeme and bits and pieces readily available. The one I made is on our ’29 Rep and works very well, better than the old Burgess that was on it before. I guess the trick bit is obtaining a suitable fish tail, we had one luckily. The article has some pics which give you some idea of how it turns out.

If you haven’t already solved your problem give it a go.

    Cheers,

    Ken Terry

Many thanks SwedScott and Oldguy, I am now off to my local bearing supplier for some shopping.
I realise I could have obtained from Club sources but UK and Western Australia are a way apart and
postage and time taken are a factor when I can doubtless get the seal locally.
    Thanks again.

We have one, it came with our ’29 Rep. and we have taken it off. We were able to get a hand change kit from Barry Jackson.
It wasn’t very satisfactory, as it wore it became very erratic. In answer to your request; Yes to all you asked. Also you have to arrange a nearside brake pedal and cross over shaft etc. and an offside exhaust system.
We had great trouble getting the mechanism to register accurately with the gear positions. That is it was constantly jumping out of gear, especially 2nd.
The hand change works so sweetly it is a pleasure to use. Cheers.
