For the avoidance of any confusion or anxiety there are no “financial troubles” concerning the Club. The Club remains financially healthy and the decision to make access to the forum availble to members only has nothing to do with cost-saving. This is about preserving the Club’s assets for the benefit of those who are prepared to contribute to the Club by paying the annual subscription.
As explained in the statement posted yesterday, the Committee considered the traffic passing through the forum before coming to a conclusion. Instances of philanthropic contributions from non-members are exteremely rare and will not necessarily be blocked by the movement in house.
Members who encounter difficulties in renewing their membership – especially those overseas – are urged to use the Paypal facility in the open area of the Club website.

The following statement explains the reasons for the Committee’s decision. The simple fact is that our Club, in common with most comparable others, is experiencing a fall in membership. Whether this is due to demographics, the finacial climate or otherwise, a distinction must be made between the services which attach to membership of the Club and those which are avaiable to those who, for whatever reason, are not prepared to join.

Lewis
ACCESS TO THE WEB FORUM
The decision to make access to the web forum available to members only was made by the Committee at a meeting held on 25 February 2012. The decision was made after a great deal of discussion and detailed consideration of the traffic passing through the forum. The decision was primarily made with the purpose of protecting the Club’s intellectual property and goodwill.
The Committee believes that the services which the Club provides – including the services provided through the website – are special and that they represent excellent value for the modest annual subscription. It is essential to recognise just how special the services are and to protect them and their value to the membership. In a world increasingly reliant on communication via the internet, the web-based services supplied by the Club will become even more of an important part of the Club’s services than they are now. Consequently the Club cannot continue to permit a substantial part of its output to be provided free-of-charge at the risk of the decline in the substance of the Club that is likely to follow.
The decision is in line with the policies adopted by a number of similar members’ clubs; The Brough Superior Club, The Rudge Enthusiasts Club and The Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club, to name but three.
Subscribers to the forum who are not members have the opportunity to join for the remainder of the year and then receive all of the Club services until 31 December 2012 including continued access to the forum for the payment of a reduced subscription of £10. If the Annual Subscription represents good value, this concession is an outright bargain, representing little more than the administrative cost to the Club. We hope that access to the Spares Scheme, regular deliveries of the exceptional Yowl, the opportunity to attend at Abbotsholme and other club events as well as the access to the forum will convert those who accept to the Committee’s way of thinking.
We hope that the existing members (who will suffer no inconvenience) acknowledge that the decision will ensure that the Club’s resources are protected and help to ensure that the Club prospers and grows for the benefit of the members present and future.
Try the spares scheme – the rear stand should be the same as 2 speeders and the scheme should have the castings for the legs of these stands.
I had similar carb problems with mine. Try 480 main jet (this is the factory fitting, honest !). I also recommend a proper throttle slide – Teflon coated and with a hole at the top to prevent the creation of a vacuum and the associated sticking. I was told to use a chrome-plated brass slide but I am not sure that they are available. Try Hitchcocks, although carb wizard Don Payne no longer works there:

I can confirm that the awards were for distance travelled by bike, rather than any other form of transport. When signing on entrants were asked to say whether they had ridden to the gathering and if so, how far they had travelled. I have retained most of the distance awards as the winners were unable to carry them home.
Remind me to leave the shorts at home next year(!)
Have a word with Graham – I delivered a batch of these clamps to the spares scheme at Abbotsholme.
Hello Carl
The rear whell of my 1911 is out at present – I will bring it to Abbotsholme – it will be good to see if it is the same as I am not sure whether the sproket size changed in later bikes. You will have to excuse the Japanese bearings in the hub!

I had belived that the first reference to Squirrels in relation to Scott Motorcycles was in 1921 with the introduction of the Squirrel model. However posted elsewhere on the internet is a picture of what I think is two of the entrants in the 1911 A-CU Six Days Trial – follow this link:
https://www.whittingtonvillage.fsnet.co.uk/images/hodgkin/hodgkin00086.jpg
The picture was taken by Reverend Hodgkin, an early Scott (and other motorcycles) owner. I seem to remember that the bikes were identified as a 1911 model and a 1912 prototypoe and there are corresponding pictures of all three bikes in the team and their riders in John Underhill’s books.
The interesting and relevant thing here is the mascott on the top of the headlamp of the second bike – clearly a soft toy version of a Squirrel.
Perhaps the Squirrel name was adopted earlierand transferred to the sports model later. Certainly Jeff Clew suggests that the Six Days Trial ridders had some hand in the development of the Squirrel. Any comments, thoughts or proper information gratefully accepted !
Hello Brian
I acquired a 1938 basket case Flyer some time ago which had an Enots pump which sounds very similar to the one you refer to. It is almost a complete copy of a Pilgrim pump to the extent that Pilgrim would have been justified in taking legal proceedings for passing off. Overall the Enots pump gives the impression of being a little more robust than a pilgrim and perhaps a little more modern. I had assumed that it was an after-market replacement and intended to rebuild the bike using a pilgrim pump – I haven’t had the oportunity to see it in operation, of course. But, your post has made me think.

Roy Fisher made one of these systems for his 1927 Flyer in the last few years. Try contacting him via a proivate message as I am sure he has access to the drawings.
Last seen on a camel c/o Syrian desert.
The formal notice of the AGM wwas published in the February Yowl by way of an added loose leaf flyer. This is in accordance with the notice requirements of the Articles of Association. At the same time members were asked for agenda items or proposals for resolutions – there were none notified to Julie.
A further notice of the AGM appears in the events section of April’s Yowl – this is merely a reminder as April Yowl is too late for formal notice.
So far as the Agenda is concerned this is fixed by the Articles and does not alter between years.
Brian – I am unaware why your report did not make Yowl but if you email me a copy I will circulate it at the AGM to all those attending and/or you might wish to present the report to the meeting directly ? Please let me know.
On ageneral note we have tried to keep the formal business of the AGM to a minimum this year – the new venue and its attractions is intended to create a more social event.

Many thanks Brian . I will follow both of these up.

Superb James !
That certainly looks like the one – I assume that the three smaller holes across the top correspond with the same in the other bracket and they appear to be threaded ? One of the larger holes corresponds with the oil overflow drain plug in the gearbox perhaps ?
Could I ask a very big favour and ask you to trace around the bracket and send me the tracing ? My address is in the front of Yowl. Thanks for the help again!
Hello James – that is the bracket I have from the spares scheme (and I have another two slightly different in stock which appear to fit different gearboxes – maybe Velocette?).
I think that there is another plate which bolts in front of this one, I assume to add strength which is more of a kidney shape.
Thanks for your help.
