    Hello Dan

This is a common fault in my experience – both of my Scotts have suffered. I was looking at the drain plug on my 2 speeder this weekend as part of a rebuild. You will be able to find a replacement drain tap at autojumbles as they are not rare. In the meantime I suggest that you simply use a cut-down bolt. This does have the advantage of avoiding the possibility of some curious bystander operating the tap ( and draining the system) without your knowledge!

The thread on the 2 Speeder’s water jacket appears to be 3/8 inch BSF – at least that is the tap I used to clean it up. The drain tap I had needed the thead adjusting slightly by application of the appropriate die.

I hope that this helps – Good luck!

Keith, Congratulations on passing the MOT. I had to reply to your email because you have set out just how I felt earlier in the year when my Scott passed the test and carried me down to Brighton and most of the way back shortly after – it really doesn’t get much better. And you are right about the reaction there is from such a surprising variety of people wherever you go. No less than 5 people offered to find me water to fill the radiator at Shelsley Walsh hill climb a couple of weeks back. In fact I was at least an hour late getting home due to delaying my departure talking to interested enquirers (including one who had owned a 1930 TT rep which
he had sold before the war – and still regetted the fact).

My Flyer has BSA parts too (certainly the front wheel but maybe the forks as well) and other parts are cobbled together. No matter. I hope that you get to the annual gathering – I intend to be there too. In any event I hope that your MOT tester accommodates your bike for many years to come. Keep on Scotting!

Thanks Stan, another couple of things to check – the float does seem to be rather large, but the same size as my stock of spares !

Thank you, Roger. I’m hoping to solve the problem in time for the Coventry – Brighton run in two weeks’ time. Fingers crossed!

I am unable to attend at the AGM – is there really no provision for proxy voting ?

Hi Brian, Thank you for the offer of the manifold. I think the one I have is correct as is the majority of the pipe, although it may have been shortened to permit the fitting of a Birmingham silencer. I will try Ken and check what I have got. If I need to I will come back to you concerning the manifold. Thanks again.

Did anything come of the remanufacture of these exhausts, last mentioned in August last year? I have recently acquired a 1928 Flyer which needs a more approriate exhaust – which I think means one of those which was discussed here. If I am barking up the wrong tree – can anyone suggest where else I may be lucky enough to find one – including the silencer?

    Regards to all

I have bought a pair of the wheel adjusters advertised as Bantam chain adjusters on e-bay and checked them with those on my 1929 2 speed sport. The fit is generally very good and the items so similar that I wonder whether the ones on my bike are correct in the first place. However, the washer is some 3mm oversize when compaired to the one on the bike. Otherwise all the components appear to fit, especially the “butterfly thing”. The ones on the bike were around another 2m larger than the hub shaft so that fitting the Bantam copies accentuates the misfit.
The suppliers are in Southwold in Suffolk (Mr and Mrs Baker 63 Malborough Road IP18 6BJ – info@motorbike-world.net – no telephone number disclosed unfortunately)and offer two types of adjudsters – the ones that I have are for a plunger model as advertised. The note sent by the suppliers offered a smaller set for replacement but I have not taken them up as I am quite happy with the fit of my adjusters mated with their “butterfly things ” and new nuts. I hope this helps.

    Hi Graham,

I’m affraid that I can’t help with the Brake Drum/sprocket but I would be very interested in the chain guard you have. I was just about to go to the garage to start making a pattern for one this morning!! Please let me know what you are looking for, off-group if you wish to lwo@lewis-onions-solicitors.co.uk.

    Thanks

    Hello Brian

Many thanks for your reply. I am now seriously considering cerise as a completely different approach – and a more safety-conscious alternative to all black. What is more cerise is likely to be in the spectrum of colours which I can see !

It’s always good to hear from fellow colour blind sufferers – my intended career in the Army Air Corps was cut short in a similar way to yours in the RAF.

My problem surfaced at primary school when my parents were accused of failing to teach me my colours correctly. My teacher had noticed that I painted trees up-side-down with the stumps green and the leaves brown. Later another teacher threatened me with detention when I coloured his diagrams of a sparrow as green as a parrot!

Anyhow , enough of that and back to assembling mudguards and so on !

    Thanks again.

    Ela,
I don’t know what the arranegements will be for the Scott weekend but I found it quite difficult to find camping facilities at the recent VMCC Founders Day at Stamford Hall. The Hall was refusing anyone the right to camp over night due to insurance issues and the campsite just down the road has changed hands and will only allow caravans (and camper vans – OK if that is what you mean by your van).

I thought that I should warn you so that you can make arrangements earlier. I assume that someone in the club will be able to ensure that you are given access. If not I found that I needed to knock on a farm door to get authority to camp in a local field!

I hope to see you on the day.
